  • Chilwa Minerals completed 218 drill holes spanning 2,292m at its Mpyupyu West prospect.
  • Following the announcement, Chilwa Minerals shares traded down at $0.72.
  • The programme aims to establish a maiden JORC-defined exploration target and advance towards an inferred resource.

Chilwa Minerals (ASX:CHW) reached 80% completion on its Phase 1 resource drilling programme at the Mpyupyu West heavy mineral sands prospect.

The current drilling milestone builds on the initial discovery announced on June 3 and subsequent surface panning results.

Chilwa Minerals’ Managing Director, Cadell Buss, commented, “Both rigs are still on site, and our geologists are building the geological model as the final holes are completed so that the Phase 2 resource-definition grid can be actioned as soon as Phase 1 is finished.”

The company stated that Sonic Rig 1 and Sonic Rig 2 will commence infill drilling across the prospect once the Phase 1 program finishes.

Field crews drilled 218 holes across a 17km2 target area, with mineralisation reaching an average depth of 8m.

Following the announcement, the Chilwa Minerals share price was down at $0.72.

The Mpyupyu West prospect directly adjoins the main Mpyupyu mineral resource, which contains 109.6 million tonnes at 3.28% total heavy minerals.

First sample batches have been shipped internationally for sink-float assay testing, with assay results and a maiden exploration target expected in late October.
