Chilwa Minerals expands niobium mineralisation in Malawi
Chilwa Minerals (ASX:CHW) announced expansion of the niobium mineralisation at its Nakombe syenite intrusion, located within the company’s Lake Chilwa licence in Southern Malawi.
Recent data from drillhole MPYDD015 has confirmed substantial high-grade intercepts, yielding 22m at 0.228% Nb₂O₅ from 346.5m downhole.
The high-grade zone is nestled within a much broader, uncut mineralised intersection spanning 161.5m and averaging 0.165% Nb₂O₅.
As the southernmost hole drilled on the Nakombe target, MPYDD015 was strategically paired as a scissors hole with MPYDD006.
The structural positioning demonstrates the continuity of the mineralised system across a proven 270-metre strike length.
The resource remains open at depth, as well as to the east and north, paving the way for upcoming phase 2 drilling campaigns planned north of the Nakombe River.
The preliminary results were obtained using Chilwa’s reliable in-house portable X-ray fluorescence analysis, an exploration method that historically correlates closely with external laboratory assays.
While these initial pXRF figures are indicative, the company is eagerly awaiting comprehensive external ICP-MS laboratory results—which will also detail rare earth element, gallium, and tantalum concentrations.
The breakthrough follows strong historical results from drillhole MPYDD006, which previously recorded 0.31% Nb₂O₅ over 126 m, establishing the Nakombe target as the primary focus of Chilwa's ongoing diamond drilling operations in the Mpyupyu area.
