The Clean Energy Council has thrown its support behind a coordinated national approach to data centre development, arguing that the strategy is essential for Australia’s energy resilience.

Responding to the federal government's recent guidance on AI infrastructure, CEC CEO Jackie Trad highlighted that the country's extensive pipeline of renewable projects is well-positioned to meet the surging electricity demands of the tech sector.

Trad noted that the significant energy requirements of data centres could act as a catalyst for regional investment and broader grid security.

Furthermore, she emphasised that by committing to new green energy generation, the industry would help shield households from rising costs and reduce the nation's reliance on ageing coal-fired power stations.
