Europe's Extreme Heat Wave Crisis Is Getting Worse

Another wave of intense heat is sweeping across an already parched Europe this week, raising wildfire risks, threatening crops and drying watersheds feeding the region's critically low rivers. Europe's fifth major heat wave of the year is likely to block moisture-bearing clouds from helping refill rivers such as the Rhine, Po and Danube, where record low water levels have disrupted navigation and power production. Climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of extreme heat on the world's fastest-warming continent, straining power grids, sapping water supplies and curbing farm output. Mercedes Loses Ground in China's Premium Auto Market

After decades of winning over Chinese buyers with its German engineering, Mercedes-Benz Group AG sold only 1,153 units in China in the first half of 2026, a fraction of the more than 80,000 similarly priced SU7 sedans Xiaomi Corp. delivered in the period. The performance echoes the challenges BMW AG, Volkswagen AG and Porsche AG face in China, where they all reported second-quarter sales declines of at least 30%, worse than the overall market's drop. Bloomberg's William Wilkes reports.
