Australia recorded a 0.7% rise in filled jobs to 16.3 million in the June quarter, driven by a 110,700 position gain across the nation according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

The latest quarterly gain marks the fifth consecutive expansion in national employment, supported by a 0.4% rise in main jobs alongside a 4.6% jump in secondary positions.

"Filled jobs rose 0.7% in the June quarter, the fifth quarterly rise in a row," said ABS head of labour statistics Sean Crick.

Employment growth was heavily weighted toward part-time work over full-time roles, which resulted in a 0.3% decline in average hours worked per job during the three-month period.

The national multiple job-holding rate increased by 0.4 percentage points to reach a record high of 6.9%.

Private sector hiring drove the expansion with a 0.8% rise, led by healthcare gains of 24,400 positions and construction additions of 13,700 roles.

Meanwhile, public sector employment remained completely flat over the quarter as educational additions of 1,600 positions were offset by a decline of 4,500 public administration roles.
