The Graph

About

The Graph is a decentralized protocol for indexing and querying blockchain data, enabling developers to organize, access, and serve data efficiently for decentralized applications. The protocol allows users to build and publish open application programming interfaces, called subgraphs, which extract data from supported blockchain networks and process it via GraphQL queries. A globally distributed network of independent node operators, known as Indexers, organizes the raw data and responds to query requests, while Curators and Delegators help secure and allocate resources across the network. By replacing centralized data servers with decentralized infrastructure, the system provides reliable, fast, and continuous data availability for Web3 dApps.

Products and/or services of The Graph

  • Subgraphs: Open application programming interfaces that organize and index blockchain smart contract data into GraphQL APIs, allowing developers to query structured data for application frontends across more than 60 supported blockchain networks.
  • Substreams: High-performance data streaming technology that processes parallelized blockchain data into custom data sinks, enabling developers to stream real-time block data into databases, files, or external services with ultra-low latency.
  • Indexer Nodes: Decentralized node infrastructure operated by independent network participants who process, index, and serve data queries for subgraphs, receiving query fees and indexing rewards for maintaining high-uptime data availability.
  • Network Query Services: Data retrieval services that allow decentralized application frontends to fetch indexed blockchain data using GraphQL queries, serving over one trillion total queries with continuous network uptime across distributed global nodes.
  • Curation Mechanism: Protocol signaling system where curators assess and identify high-quality subgraphs by depositing tokens onto specific APIs, guiding indexers toward prioritizing valuable data streams for network processing and query allocation.
  • Delegation System: Staking framework that enables network participants to delegate tokens to active indexers, enhancing node security and indexing capacity while sharing in the query fee revenue and token rewards generated by the node.
