Somnia is a high-throughput layer-1 EVM-compatible blockchain designed to support real-time decentralized applications and autonomous AI agents. Built with a multi-stream consensus protocol and a custom database engine called IceDB, the network processes high transaction volumes with low latency, predictable gas fees, and sub-cent execution costs. Its reactive blockchain architecture extends Solidity to allow smart contracts to automatically listen and respond to onchain events and external data. Developed in connection with the Virtual Society Foundation, Somnia enables developers to build complex onchain infrastructure, including high-frequency decentralized exchanges, automated prediction markets, and agentic workflows that query external application programming interfaces natively.
