About

Optimism is a Layer 2 scaling solution and blockchain ecosystem built on Ethereum that utilizes optimistic rollups to process transactions off-chain while maintaining Ethereum layer-1 security. The platform features the OP Stack, a standardized, open-source development stack that enables developers to launch custom Layer 2 blockchains, collectively forming an interconnected network known as the Superchain. Transactions executed on OP Stack chains are periodically batched and posted back to Ethereum, drastically reducing gas fees and latency compared to base-layer operations. Governed by the Optimism Collective and Optimism Foundation, the ecosystem supports decentralized applications, decentralized finance protocols, and enterprise applications across multiple participating chains.

Products and/or services of Optimism

  • Enterprise Managed Rollups: Fully managed Layer 2 blockchain deployments offering dedicated transaction throughput, customizable compliance controls, SLA-backed uptime, and integrated threat monitoring for financial institutions, fintechs, and centralized cryptocurrency exchanges.
  • Modular Blockchain Framework: An open-source software stack enabling developers to construct customized Layer 2 rollups with configurable execution environments, data availability layers, fee structures, sequence mechanisms, and built-in transaction screening.
  • Layer 2 Ethereum Rollup: An EVM-equivalent Layer 2 network that executes transactions off-chain, aggregates execution data into batches, and submits state proofs to the Ethereum mainnet to achieve sub-second transaction finality and reduced gas costs.
  • Onchain Integration Toolkit: A software development kit providing developers with standardized APIs and smart contract libraries to integrate onchain transaction functionality, token transfers, and smart contract interactions directly into existing web applications.
  • Cross-Chain Interoperability Network: A shared communication protocol and unified bridge architecture connecting independent Layer 2 chains, enabling atomic cross-chain message passing, shared liquidity pools, and seamless asset transfers across participating network deployments.
  • Decentralized Governance Framework: A dual-governance system consisting of a token-weighted council and a reputation-based assembly tasked with approving core protocol upgrades, allocating retroactive public goods funding, and directing ecosystem development treasury allocations.
