About
Kaspa is a proof-of-work cryptocurrency protocol built on a blockDAG structure designed to enable parallel block generation and high transaction throughput. The network utilizes the GHOSTDAG consensus algorithm, a generalization of Bitcoin consensus, which allows block creation in parallel without discarding orphan blocks. Instead of operating as a single sequential blockchain, blocks are organized in a directed acyclic graph to maintain rapid block creation rates and low confirmation latency. Kaspa features an automated reachability mechanism, block DAG pruning, and SPV proofs to manage data storage requirements. The network was distributed via an open-source fair launch with no premine or allocated token distribution.

Operations
Products and/or services of Kaspa
- Consensus Engine: A proof-of-work protocol utilizing the GHOSTDAG algorithm to order blocks in a directed acyclic graph structure, allowing parallel blocks to co-exist without orphan rates while maintaining Bitcoin-style security parameters and ledger finality.
- Proof-of-Work Algorithm: An optical-mining-friendly heavyhash function named kHeavyHash that secures the network via matrix multiplication operations, supporting energy-efficient hardware acceleration across specialized Application-Specific Integrated Circuit devices and graphics processing units.
- Data Pruning Mechanism: A state-management subsystem that prunes historical block DAG data while preserving UTXO commitments and pruning-point block headers, enabling nodes to run on limited storage hardware without downloading the complete transaction history.
- Layer-2 Smart Contracts: An ecosystem execution framework supporting smart contract functionality and decentralized finance applications through rollups and sidechains anchored to the primary blockDAG layer, preserving base-layer transaction speeds and consensus stability.
- Digital Asset Wallets: Non-custodial desktop, web, and mobile wallet software providing seed-phrase key management, transaction signing, and direct peer-to-peer balance transfers across the native network using simplified payment verification proofs.
- Network Explorer: A web-based ledger indexing service displaying real-time blockDAG visualization, individual block generation metrics, transaction history, address balances, mining hash rate statistics, and network topology data for public verification.
