Compound

About

Compound is a decentralized financial protocol that operates autonomous, algorithmic money markets on Ethereum and other Ethereum Virtual Machine compatible blockchain networks. The protocol allows users to supply cryptocurrency assets into liquidity pools to earn interest or borrow supported digital assets by providing over-collateralized loans. Interest rates are determined automatically by smart contracts based on supply and demand dynamics within each asset pool. Governance of the system is executed on-chain through a decentralized autonomous organization structure, where governance token holders propose, evaluate, and execute protocol upgrades, risk parameter modifications, and asset additions.

Products and/or services of Compound

  • Algorithmic Liquidity Markets: Automated money market smart contracts allowing users to deposit supported cryptocurrency assets into interest-bearing liquidity pools. Depositors supply collateral into EVM-compatible smart contracts to earn interest generated dynamically through borrower interest payments across multiple supported blockchain networks.
  • Over-Collateralized Crypto Borrowing: Decentralized lending mechanism permitting users to draw loans against deposited collateral assets. Borrowers maintain required collateralization ratios while variable interest rates adjust algorithmically based on real-time market utilization rates across active asset pools on multiple layer-1 and layer-2 blockchains.
  • Yield-Bearing Asset Tokens: Standardized ERC-20 cTokens minted upon asset deposition to represent underlying user balances plus continuously accruing yield. These yield-bearing tokens can be held, transferred, or integrated into external decentralized finance applications as secondary collateral or liquidity assets.
  • On-Chain Governance Protocol: Decentralized smart contract architecture facilitating community governance through proposal creation, voting procedures, and automated execution. Token holders govern protocol parameters, risk thresholds, supported asset collateral factors, interest rate models, and treasury reserve distributions without centralized intermediaries.
  • Multi-Chain Protocol Deployments: Cross-chain liquidity deployment across major EVM-compatible networks including Ethereum mainnet, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, and Base. Multi-chain smart contracts allow users to access decentralized money market functionality with reduced transaction latency and lower network gas fees.
  • Developer Integration Infrastructure: Open-source software development kits, smart contract interfaces, and application programming interfaces enabling third-party platforms. Financial applications, web3 wallets, and institutional custodial solutions integrate decentralized money market functionality directly into user interfaces and automated portfolio strategies.
