Chain-key Bitcoin

About

Chain-key Bitcoin is a 1:1 Bitcoin-backed token created on the Internet Computer blockchain network using chain-key cryptography. Unlike traditional wrapped tokens that depend on centralized custodians or third-party bridges, it operates directly through canister smart contracts on the Internet Computer. The protocol uses threshold ECDSA cryptography and an integrated Bitcoin light node to verify transactions directly on the Bitcoin network. Users can mint tokens by sending native Bitcoin to a canister-managed address or burn tokens to redeem native Bitcoin on the mainnet. The architecture enables fast, low-cost transfers and seamless integration with decentralized finance applications across the ecosystem.

Products and/or services of Chain-key Bitcoin

  • Bitcoin Minting Protocol: A canister-based smart contract mechanism that accepts native Bitcoin deposits, verifies on-chain transaction proofs through an integrated network node, and issues equivalent cryptographic twin tokens directly to user wallet addresses without third-party custodians.
  • Native Bitcoin Redemption: A protocol burn mechanism allowing token holders to submit redemption requests, triggering containerized smart contracts to execute, sign, and broadcast raw native transactions to the main Bitcoin blockchain network for direct asset retrieval.
  • Threshold ECDSA Cryptographic Engine: An advanced cryptographic signing scheme that enables decentralized subnet canisters to generate valid ECDSA keys and sign Bitcoin transactions securely without exposing private keys to individual network nodes or centralized managers.
  • On-Chain Bitcoin Light Client: An integrated software layer within the execution environment that continuously ingests, parses, and validates block headers and transaction data directly from the underlying Bitcoin blockchain network to verify state.
  • Token Standard Execution Layer: A standardized smart contract implementation adhering to ICRC-1 and ICRC-2 specifications, facilitating rapid, low-latency token transfers with deterministic micro-transaction fees across decentralized application ecosystems.
  • Decentralized Finance Integration Infrastructure: Cross-chain liquidity frameworks enabling tokenized asset utilization within order-book decentralized exchanges, automated market makers, lending protocols, and multi-chain web wallets operating across distributed ledger networks.
