Avalanche
About
Avalanche is a decentralized, open-source layer-one blockchain platform engineered for launching decentralized finance applications, enterprise financial assets, and interoperable custom blockchain networks. Founded by computer scientists from Cornell University and developed by Ava Labs, the platform employs a novel Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism capable of achieving sub-second transaction finality. The architecture consists of three primary built-in blockchains: the Exchange Chain for asset creation, the Contract Chain for Ethereum Virtual Machine compatible smart contracts, and the Platform Chain for coordinating validators and subnets. Native AVAX tokens secure the network, power transaction fees, and serve as the common unit of account across sovereign subnets.

Operations
Products and/or services of Avalanche
- Contract Chain (C-Chain): Smart contract execution layer utilizing an implementation of the Ethereum Virtual Machine. It executes Solidity-based smart contracts, powers decentralized exchanges, lending protocols, and non-fungible tokens, and processes transaction fees paid in native network tokens.
- Subnet Infrastructure: Sovereign blockchain network framework allowing developers to deploy custom layer-one or layer-two blockchains with tailored virtual machines, execution rules, and validator sets. Subnet creators stake native network tokens and configure custom compliance, membership, and gas token specifications.
- Platform Chain (P-Chain): Administrative metadata blockchain that coordinates network validators, tracks active subnets, and manages staking operations. It enables node operators to lock tokens to secure the broader network, earn validator rewards, and dynamically allocate validation power across sovereign subnets.
- Exchange Chain (X-Chain): Decentralized asset management layer designed for creating, swapping, and trading digital assets and tokens. It utilizes a Directed Acyclic Graph structure to process high-throughput asset transfers and burn transaction fees denominated in native network utility tokens.
- Cross-Chain Teleporter Bridge: Interoperability protocol enabling native message passing and asset transfers directly between custom subnets and primary network chains. It eliminates external third-party bridge dependencies by utilizing validator signatures to verify and finalize cross-chain cross-network transactions securely.
- Core Wallet Infrastructure: Non-custodial multi-chain wallet and portfolio management interface providing browser extension, web, and mobile access. The application supports native asset staking, subnet bridging, cross-chain swaps, hardware wallet integration, and decentralized application connection across connected network layers.
