Zoetis receives EU approval for Poulvac Procerta HVT-ND poultry vaccine

Zoetis (NYSE:ZTS) announced that the European Commission (EC) granted marketing authorization for Poulvac Procerta HVT-ND, a recombinant vector vaccine designed to protect chickens against Newcastle disease (ND) and Marek’s disease.

The vaccine can be administered either in ovo (inside the egg before hatching) or through subcutaneous injection at hatch, providing protection against both diseases with a single dose.

Poulvac Procerta HVT-ND uses the herpesvirus of turkey (HVT) as a vaccine vector.

The technology uses an avirulent HVT virus that replicates in chickens while expressing a Newcastle disease virus antigen to stimulate immunity against ND.

Zoetis Executive Vice President and President of Research and Development Kevin Esch said the approval provides European poultry producers with an additional option to help prevent Newcastle disease and Marek’s disease in chicken flocks.

The approval comes as Newcastle disease continues to pose a threat to poultry production in Europe, with recent outbreaks reported in countries including Germany, Spain, and Poland.

The authorization also supports potential export opportunities for poultry producers in Southeast Asian markets where the vaccine has already received approval.
