WeRide (NASDAQ:WRD) reported record unaudited financial results for the first quarter of 2026, as the company’s aggressive international expansion into fare-charging robotaxi services began to scale.

Total revenue for the period reached RMB114.1 million (US$16.5 million), representing a 57.6% increase year-over-year.

The growth was led by a 115.8% surge in product revenue, reflecting increased sales of its Level 4 autonomous vehicles, while service revenue grew by 49.0%.

The company’s gross profit rose to RMB39.6 million, maintaining a margin of 34.7%.

However, the high costs of research and development for autonomous systems continued to weigh on the bottom line.

WeRide reported an operating loss of RMB431 million and a net loss of RMB389.1 million for the quarter.

Despite these losses, the firm maintains a significant capital cushion, ending the period with RMB6,224.7 million in total cash, deposits, and restricted cash.

Operationally, WeRide achieved several technical and commercial milestones during the quarter.

The company’s global autonomous vehicle (AV) fleet expanded to approximately 2,800 vehicles, spanning its robotaxi, robobus, and sanitation lines.

In a notable competitive achievement, its "WRD 3.0" system became China’s first four-time champion in the national urban intelligent driving competition, highlighting the maturity of its software stack.

The quarter also marked a turning point for WeRide’s international commercialization strategy.

In the Middle East, the company transitioned to fully driverless, fare-charging robotaxi operations in Dubai through a partnership with Uber and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

Meanwhile, in Abu Dhabi, its services now cover roughly 70% of the city’s core areas.

In Southeast Asia, the company officially launched public operations in Singapore’s Punggol district in collaboration with Grab, marking its first major footprint in the region.

With regulatory permits now held in eight global markets—including China, the UAE, and Singapore—WeRide is positioning itself to capitalize on the "thousand-vehicle era" of autonomous driving.

As the company prepares to deploy 1,200 robotaxis across the Middle East by 2027, investors remain focused on how the scaling of international fare-charging operations will impact the company's path toward operational break-even.
