Warner Music acquires AI attribution startup Sureel AI
Warner Music Group (NASDAQ:WMG) announced Wednesday that it is acquiring AI attribution startup Sureel AI, a company that has developed patented technology to create “AI DNA” for songs.
Sureel AI’s platform breaks musical works into component elements, allowing detailed tracking of how AI models use these elements.
The acquisition positions Warner Music to better monitor and protect its artists’ and songwriters’ work when it is incorporated into AI-generated content or utilized to train AI models.
By leveraging Sureel AI’s technology, WMG aims to establish clearer attribution and usage tracking, addressing growing concerns in the music industry regarding AI-driven content creation.
This move underscores the music industry’s increasing focus on intellectual property management in the age of generative AI, ensuring that creators maintain control and recognition for their work.
