Viking Therapeutics (NASDAQ:VKTX) has started a Phase 1 single ascending dose study of VK3019 in healthy adults with a body mass index of 30 or higher.
The randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial is designed to evaluate safety, tolerability, pharmacokinetics, and exploratory effects on body weight reduction.
VK3019 is a dual amylin and calcitonin receptor agonist being developed as part of Viking’s expanding pipeline in obesity and metabolic diseases.
The candidate adds to Viking’s broader obesity portfolio, which includes Phase 3 VANQUISH trials of VK2735 and planned oral VK2735 development programs.
Viking is also advancing additional pipeline assets including VK2809 for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH/NASH) and VK0214 for X-linked adrenoleukodystrophy.
