Vertiv Holdings (NYSE:VRT) announced the acquisition of Strategic Thermal Labs (STL) on Monday, a move designed to deepen its engineering expertise in liquid cooling for high-density computing environments.

The transaction integrates STL’s specialized knowledge in cold-plate design, server-side liquid cooling, and thermal validation into Vertiv’s broader data center infrastructure portfolio.

The acquisition comes as artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing (HPC) drive power densities beyond the limits of traditional air cooling.

By absorbing STL, Vertiv aims to improve system-level simulation and emulation, ensuring better lifecycle outcomes for complex thermal deployments.

STL’s expertise in high-density thermal validation will allow Vertiv to provide more precise cooling solutions that are tested against the rigorous heat demands of next-generation silicon.

Vertiv emphasized that the deal extends its "thermal-chain" strategy while maintaining a strictly server- and silicon-agnostic approach.
