Valion completes oral Entolimod formulation work
- Valion Bio (NASDAQ:VBIO) and Shear Kershman Laboratories completed formulation work on a needle-free oral mucosal version of Entolimod.
- The formulation uses SKL’s BioViscid platform and is designed for absorption through the lining of the mouth.
- Valion said the next development step is to test whether the formulation can deliver measurable Entolimod into the bloodstream.
Valion Bio (NASDAQ:VBIO) and Shear Kershman Laboratories completed formulation work on an oral mucosal version of Entolimod for potential use in radiation emergencies.
The formulation uses SKL’s BioViscid drug-delivery platform and is designed to deliver Entolimod through the lining of the mouth rather than by injection.
Valion said its injectable Entolimod program remains a priority while the needle-free program is being developed as a separate potential delivery pathway.
Published animal studies of injected Entolimod have reported protection against lethal radiation before exposure, including effects involving bone marrow and gastrointestinal tissues.
Separate non-human-primate research reported improved survival and faster recovery of bone marrow and intestinal tissue after radiation exposure.
Valion said a successfully developed and approved needle-free formulation could reduce dependence on trained personnel administering injections and support distribution to larger populations during radiological emergencies.
The company said the next study will evaluate whether oral mucosal dosing produces measurable systemic exposure, which would guide further formulation, dosing and development work.
