  • Takeda reported a 67% lower relative risk of ulcerative colitis complications among patients reaching a disease-clearance treatment target, compared with a symptom-only remission target.
  • Of 672 participants, 400, or 59.5%, achieved their assigned corticosteroid-free treatment target by Week 48.
  • The Phase 4 VERDICT findings support further evaluation of deeper remission targets, including visible and microscopic intestinal healing, when treating patients with ENTYVIO.

Takeda (NYSE:TAK) reported a 67% lower relative risk of ulcerative colitis complications with ENTYVIO-based treatment targeting disease clearance rather than symptomatic remission alone.

The Phase 4 VERDICT trial randomized 672 adults, with 400 achieving assigned corticosteroid-free treatment targets by Week 48, including 52.1% in the disease-clearance group.

“VERDICT suggests that implementation of a treat-to-target strategy can change the disease course,” said VERDICT lead study author and Western University Professor of Medicine Vipul Jairath.

The disease-clearance group recorded a hazard ratio of 0.33 versus symptom-only remission, with statistical significance at P=0.0014 and similar adverse-event rates across groups.

Takeda presented the findings at UEG Week 2026, supporting further research into deeper remission targets.

The trial tracked ulcerative colitis complications for up to 80 weeks after target achievement, with 51 complications reported and rescue therapy being the most frequent.

Takeda previously reported 47.3% clinical remission at Week 54 in its pediatric ENTYVIO Phase 3 KEPLER study and received FDA acceptance of its pediatric application in June 2026.
