Summit Therapeutics (NASDAQ:SMMT) completed a $2 billion strategic equity investment from AstraZeneca (NASDAQ:AZN) to advance its clinical oncology pipeline.
The funding agreement expands the strategic relationship between the pharmaceutical companies following an initial announcement made in late September.
"This investment reflects AstraZeneca’s confidence in Summit and in ivonescimab’s potential to redefine cancer treatment," said Summit Therapeutics Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer Robert W. Duggan.
The transaction features the purchase of approximately 108,955 shares of preferred stock convertible into common stock at a ratio implying an $18.36 purchase price.
Following the announcement, Summit Therapeutics's share price was up at $16.80.
The additional capital will allow the company to accelerate the clinical development of ivonescimab across various solid tumor settings.
The expanded development plans include combining the investigational bispecific antibody with antibody drug conjugates such as sonesitatug vedotin and Datroway.
