
S&P Global to acquire OpenZeppelin security firm

S&P Global (NYSE:SPGI) agreed to acquire OpenZeppelin, a provider of onchain security standards and smart contract technology, in a transaction announced September 17, 2026.
The acquisition follows growing adoption of blockchain-based financial systems, with S&P Global seeking to extend its risk assessment capabilities into the onchain technology risk layer.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, and the deal remains subject to customary closing conditions, with S&P Global stating that it does not expect the acquisition to have a material impact on its financial results.
OpenZeppelin was founded in 2015 and provides onchain security assessments, secure development services and the open-source OpenZeppelin Contracts library used in smart contract development.
The company said OpenZeppelin’s technology has supported more than 900 security engagements, identified over 10,000 vulnerabilities and underpins more than $37 trillion in transferred value, while CEO Demian Brener will report to Yann Le Pallec, President of S&P Global Ratings.
