Scienjoy returns to profitability in Q1 despite lower revenues

Scienjoy (NASDAQ:SJ) reported a successful turnaround in its bottom-line profitability for the first quarter of 2026, recovering from a prior-year loss even as total revenues experienced a moderate single-digit contraction.

The Beijing-based live streaming and interactive entertainment operator announced that total revenue for the three months ended March 31, 2026, fell 8% to RMB282.6 million, down from RMB307.3 million in the same period last year.

The compressed top line also placed pressure on the company's operating spreads.

Scienjoy’s gross profit margin contracted to 17.7% for the first quarter, down from 19.4% in the comparative prior-year period.

Management indicated that elevated revenue-sharing costs with broadcasting talent and content licensing expenses remained primary factors driving the near-term margin compression.

Despite these headwinds, the entertainment firm achieved a significant reversal on its bottom line, primarily driven by stringent corporate cost-control measures and streamlined administrative structures.

Scienjoy generated net income of RMB7.6 million for the quarter, a substantial improvement over the net loss recorded in the first quarter of 2025.

The successful pivot back to active profit generation strengthened the company’s near-term liquidity position.

Scienjoy concluded the first quarter of 2026 with cash and cash equivalents rising to RMB326.3 million, providing the firm with additional flexibility to fund its ongoing strategic initiatives.

Operationally, the company continues to pivot its core business beyond traditional virtual gifting platforms into broader digital lifestyle ecosystems.
