SAP (NYSE:SAP) today announced a definitive agreement to acquire Dremio, a leader in data lakehouse technology, in a move designed to collapse the silos between SAP and non-SAP data environments.

While the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, the acquisition is a central pillar of SAP’s strategy to accelerate the deployment of "agentic" artificial intelligence across its enterprise ecosystem.

The transaction, which is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, focuses on transforming the SAP Business Data Cloud into an Apache Iceberg-native enterprise lakehouse.

By integrating Dremio’s high-performance query engine and universal open catalog, SAP aims to provide customers with a serverless architecture that can process vast amounts of data without the need for complex movement or duplication.

The deal remains subject to customary closing conditions and regulatory approvals.

Upon completion, Dremio’s technology is expected to be deeply integrated into SAP Datasphere and the broader SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP), providing a performance boost for serverless data processing and cross-platform queries.
