S&P Global (NYSE:SPGI) has completed its acquisition of blockchain security company OpenZeppelin, expanding its digital asset risk assessment capabilities to cover the technology underlying tokenized financial products and decentralized finance.
The transaction, initially announced on September 17, 2026, combines S&P Global's financial intelligence and institutional relationships with OpenZeppelin's expertise in smart contract security, blockchain auditing and secure development services.
“Our digital assets strategy centers on bringing trusted data, benchmarks and transparent risk assessment to markets as they move onchain,” said Yann Le Pallec, President of S&P Global Ratings.
Founded in 2015, OpenZeppelin develops widely used open-source smart contract libraries that have supported more than $37 trillion in transferred value and has conducted over 900 security engagements for blockchain protocols and financial institutions.
OpenZeppelin will continue operating as a separate business unit under its existing name, with founder Demian Brener remaining in charge and reporting directly to Le Pallec.
S&P Global did not disclose the acquisition price and said the transaction is not expected to have a material impact on its financial results.
The acquisition supports S&P Global's strategy to develop technology-focused risk assessments and benchmarks for blockchain-based financial products, including stablecoins, tokenized funds and other onchain financial infrastructure.
