RTX secures $515M U.S. Navy contract to expand SPY-6 radar deployment
RTX (NYSE:RTX) announced today that its Raytheon business has been awarded a $515 million follow-on contract from the U.S. Navy to continue the production and integration of the SPY-6 family of radars.
The award focuses on the integration, testing, and system upgrades of Flight IIA destroyers with the SPY-6(V)4 radar variant.
The contract is structured as a sole-source agreement and includes provisions for support to Germany and other potential nations through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program.
This inclusion highlights the expanding international interest in the radar’s scalable design, which allows for deployment across a variety of naval platforms.
To support the growing demand, Raytheon has invested $800 million into its radar manufacturing infrastructure.
The company expects these investments to facilitate a doubling of SPY-6 output by 2028.
Currently, the U.S. Navy’s roadmap projects that SPY-6 radar systems will be deployed on more than 50 naval ships over the next decade, solidifying the system’s role as the primary sensor for integrated air and missile defense.
The SPY-6 family—which utilizes Gallium Nitride (GaN) technology—is designed to provide enhanced detection, tracking, and discrimination capabilities against a wide array of maritime and aerial threats.
As mission requirements evolve, the modular architecture of the SPY-6 remains a cornerstone of the Navy’s fleet modernization strategy.
