Riot Platforms signs $9.1 billion AI lease

Riot Platforms (NASDAQ:RIOT) signed a 20-year, 191 MW AI data-center lease expected by the company to generate approximately $9.1 billion in contract revenue.

The announcement accompanied Q2 2026 revenue of $174.2 million, up 14% from $153.0 million, including $23.2 million from Data Centers.

“Today’s announcement of a landmark 20-year, 191-megawatt data center lease with a leading frontier AI lab marks a defining moment,” said Riot Platforms CEO Jason Les.

Riot expects the first 96 MW in December 2027 and all 191 MW by June 2028, with extension options potentially lifting contract revenue to $16.1 billion.

Following the announcement, Riot Platforms' share price was up about 4.1% at $20.19.

Riot generated $113.7 million from bitcoin mining and $37.3 million from engineering, while ending June with more than $1.2 billion of liquid assets.

Riot has now contracted 241 MW at Rockdale across the new AI tenant and AMD, while Barron’s reported that the unnamed customer is Anthropic.
