Rhythm Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:RYTM) received Japanese marketing authorization for its IMCIVREE therapy, targeting a company-estimated 5,000 to 8,000 obesity patients.

The treatment represents the first approved therapy for acquired hypothalamic obesity within the Japanese medical market.

The company stated the approval followed the Phase 3 TRANSCEND trial achieving a placebo-adjusted 18.8% reduction in BMI.

The global clinical study included a dedicated Japanese cohort of 12 patients to evaluate localized treatment efficacy.

Following the announcement, Rhythm Pharmaceuticals' share price was up at $111.41.

The melanocortin-4 receptor agonist has maintained an official orphan drug designation from Japanese regulators since March 2025.

The company stated the medication is expected to officially launch in Japan by the end of 2026.
