Raytheon, an RTX (NYSE:RTX) business, achieved a major milestone in its next-generation sensing portfolio on April 15, 2026, with the successful completion of the first flight test of the RAIVEN Staring sensing system.

The test was conducted aboard a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter, demonstrating the system's ability to provide pilots with unprecedented levels of clarity and environmental data in challenging operational conditions.

The RAIVEN suite is an air-cooled electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) system designed to identify and track threats from significant distances.

During the inaugural flight, the system utilized three advanced sensors to map urban, marsh, and coastline terrains in zero-illumination environments.

The configuration provided a 270-degree field of situational awareness, though Raytheon noted the modular RAIVEN family can be scaled to provide a full spherical 360-degree view.

This capability is intended to reduce pilot workload and improve survivability in high-threat or degraded visual environments.

Produced at Raytheon’s facility in McKinney, Texas, the RAIVEN system represents a shift toward more integrated, high-resolution "staring" arrays that eliminate the lag often associated with traditional scanning sensors.
