Pearl Diver Credit holds dividends stable despite mark-to-market valuation drag

Share

Pearl Diver Credit Company (NYSE:PDCC) reported a quarter of divergent financial indicators, as robust recurring cash distributions from its collateralized loan obligation (CLO) investments stood in contrast to heavy, market-driven paper devaluations that erased a portion of its accounting book value.

The asset manager reported a net asset value (NAV) per common share of $10.48 as of March 31, 2026.

This reflects a sharp drop from the $14.42 per share valuation recorded at the close of the prior quarter, driven by wide-ranging fair-value markdowns across underlying credit tranches in the wake of shifting global interest rate expectations.

The divergence between cash flow and GAAP reporting was pronounced.

Pearl Diver recorded a GAAP net loss of $22.5 million, or $3.28 per share, weighed down heavily by non-cash, unrealized market-to-market losses on its asset holdings.

Conversely, the company's core earning engines remained highly profitable.

Net investment income (NII) for the quarter came in at $2.6 million, translating to $0.39 per share.

On a pure liquidity basis, the investment portfolio generated a massive $10.4 million in recurring CLO equity and debt cash flows, equating to $1.53 per share for the three-month period.

The underlying credit portfolio continued to deliver high performance, concluding the quarter with a weighted average effective yield of 11.27% on its interest-bearing asset base.

Meanwhile, Pearl Diver carefully managed its capital structure against the backdrop of fluctuating asset base values.

The company ended the first quarter with total leverage of $39.5 million.

This borrowing level represents approximately 35% of the firm's aggregate asset base, maintaining a safe compliance buffer beneath statutory leverage restrictions.

Demonstrating management's confidence in the underlying durability of its portfolio’s cash flow profile, Pearl Diver's Board of Directors fully maintained its capital return program.

The company declared consecutive monthly distributions of $0.13 per common share to be paid across June, July, and August 2026.
