Oracle (NYSE:ORCL) announced a non-binding collaboration with AstraZeneca (NASDAQ:AZN) to explore artificial intelligence and real-world data applications in clinical research.
The companies disclosed no financial terms, while the agreement focuses on potential improvements in clinical trial recruitment, evidence generation and patient care.
“By bringing AstraZeneca’s scientific expertise together with Oracle’s data, cloud, AI, and healthcare capabilities, we have an opportunity to help accelerate research,” said Oracle CEO Mike Sicilia.
Initial projects could cover cancer, cardiovascular, renal and metabolic diseases, respiratory conditions, immunology and rare diseases, with privacy safeguards governing data use.
The companies plan to establish shared governance and measurable outcomes before considering broader deployment.
Their first announced initiative will focus on hypertension care and clinical research in Abu Dhabi, working with healthcare technology company M42.
Oracle provides cloud infrastructure, healthcare data and clinical workflow technology, while AstraZeneca develops medicines across oncology, biopharmaceuticals and rare diseases.
