Semiconductor manufacturer onsemi (NASDAQ:ON) and Chinese electric vehicle maker NIO (NYSE:NIO) have expanded their strategic collaboration to accelerate the adoption of next-generation 900-volt electric vehicle architectures.
Announced on Monday, the partnership leverages onsemi’s latest EliteSiC enhanced M3e technology to support NIO’s transition away from conventional 400-volt systems.
The integration of the EliteSiC platform aims to significantly upgrade powertrain capabilities across NIO’s evolving vehicle lineup.
According to onsemi, the enhanced M3e technology optimizes switching performance and body-diode characteristics.
From an engineering standpoint, this technological shift reduces energy losses while strengthening thermal and short-circuit robustness.
The practical market result is a marked improvement in overall drivetrain efficiency, higher system output, and substantially shorter charging times, all while maintaining consistent operational performance under load.
NIO is currently presenting the tangible applications of this expanded supplier relationship at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show.
The advanced 900-volt architecture, underpinned by the new silicon carbide technology, is scheduled to deploy across multiple upcoming models, prominently featuring the automaker's ES9 flagship.
