Nvidia’s new AI PC chip boosts Microsoft, Dell, and HP stocks
Software giant Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) and computer hardware manufacturers Dell Technologies (NYSE:DELL) and HP (NYSE:HPE) saw their shares rise in premarket trading on Monday morning following a major market expansion announcement from artificial intelligence chip heavyweight Nvidia (NASDAQ:NVDA).
The semiconductor leader has unveiled a new processor targeted directly at the personal computer ecosystem, presenting a structural challenge to the long-standing market dominance of traditional players Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) and Advanced Micro Devices (NASDAQ:AMD).
Following the disclosure, shares of rival chipmakers Intel and AMD fell 10% and 3%, respectively.
Speaking at a technology trade show in Taipei, Nvidia Chief Executive Officer Jensen Huang revealed that the newly developed hardware, named the RTX Spark Superchip, is scheduled to launch this fall.
The processor will debut inside select high-performance laptops and desktops manufactured by leading global PC brands, including Dell, HP, and Lenovo.
The underlying architecture of the RTX Spark Superchip combines core computing and advanced graphics functions into a single piece of silicon.
Furthermore, the system natively supports the Microsoft Windows operating system built on top of an Arm-based architecture.
This structural pivot toward alternative silicon frameworks sent positive ripples through the broader technology ecosystem, causing Microsoft stock to soar 4% on Monday morning, while British chip designer Arm Holdings (NASDAQ:ARM) saw its shares jump 11%.
