Novo Nordisk reports CagriSema phase 3 weight loss results

• Novo Nordisk (NYSE:NVO) reported phase 3 results for once-weekly CagriSema in adults with type 2 diabetes and obesity.
• CagriSema achieved 12.4% weight loss versus 9.1% with tirzepatide in the REIMAGINE 5 trial.
• The company has filed a CagriSema application with the FDA for weight management, with a decision expected in Q4 2026.

Novo Nordisk (NYSE:NVO) reported phase 3 topline results showing once-weekly CagriSema achieved weight loss and blood sugar reductions in adults with type 2 diabetes and obesity.

In the REIMAGINE 5 trial, CagriSema produced 12.4% weight loss at week 60 compared with 9.1% for tirzepatide 5 mg, while delivering a non-inferior HbA1c reduction of 1.71% compared with 1.67%.

In the REDEFINE 9 obesity trial, CagriSema resulted in 21% weight loss compared with 2% for placebo at week 68, meeting the primary superiority endpoint and improving measures including systolic blood pressure, waist-to-height ratio and fasting lipid profile.

Novo Nordisk develops medicines focused on areas including diabetes, obesity, rare diseases and other chronic conditions, with CagriSema being developed as a once-weekly treatment option.

The company said CagriSema was generally well tolerated across both trials, with a safety profile consistent with previous studies, while the U.S. Food and Drug Administration is expected to decide on the weight management application in the fourth quarter of 2026.
