Neurocrine Biosciences (NASDAQ:NBIX) has announced new clinician-reported data highlighting the effectiveness of INGREZZA (valbenazine) in treating tardive dyskinesia (TD) among individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

The findings, presented at the American Academy of Developmental Medicine and Dentistry’s 24th Annual Education Conference in Dallas, suggest that the medication provides rapid and meaningful relief for this often underdiagnosed patient population.

The analysis, which examined 30 individuals, showed that nearly all patients experienced a reduction in TD severity following treatment with INGREZZA.

Among those who improved, 89% saw results within the first four weeks of therapy.

Beyond the reduction in involuntary movements, clinicians observed broad gains in overall functional status.

The data indicated improvements across multiple facets of daily life, including increased independence, enhanced social and emotional well-being, improved communication, and better motor skills, such as hand coordination.

Individuals with IDD are at an increased risk for developing TD due to the frequent, long-term use of antipsychotic medications to manage underlying conditions.

Because TD often goes underrecognized in this group, these findings are considered a critical step in addressing the significant burden the movement disorder places on patients and their caregivers.

The clinician-reported outcomes complement previously published patient-reported data, reinforcing the potential for INGREZZA to serve as a versatile therapeutic option for diverse patient demographics struggling with the physical and social impacts of TD.
