
M&T Bank posts $818 million Q2 income

M&T Bank (NYSE:MTB) reported second-quarter 2026 net income of $818 million and a diluted earnings per share of $5.32.
This result marks an increase from the $664 million in net income generated during the first quarter and the $716 million recorded in the second quarter of 2025.
Taxable-equivalent net interest income rose to $1.804 billion, representing a 2% sequential and 5% year-over-year increase, while the net interest margin remained steady at 3.70%.
The company stated that average loans grew to $141.4 billion, and 2.1 million common shares were repurchased for $465 million during the period.
Following the announcement, M&T Bank's share price was up at $241.85.
The bank noted that its noninterest income increased 8% compared to both the first quarter of 2026 and the second quarter of 2025, reaching $740 million.
Asset quality strengthened as nonaccrual loans dropped 23% year-over-year, with the estimated common equity tier 1 ratio finishing the quarter at 10.19%.
