MediWound (NASDAQ:MDWD) received an additional $3.3 million in non-dilutive funding to support development of a room-temperature-stable NexoBrid formulation for battlefield burn care.

The new award increases the total development program budget to $21.8 million, expanding support for work related to the company’s planned U.S. regulatory submission activities.

MediWound stated that the funding will help advance development activities needed for an Investigational New Drug application to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

The company plans to complete chemistry, manufacturing, and controls development, establish in-house cGMP manufacturing capabilities, and produce clinical batches for the planned clinical program.

MediWound develops products focused on wound care, including NexoBrid, an enzymatic treatment designed to remove dead tissue from severe burns.

The program operates under MediWound’s North American license agreement with Vericel (NASDAQ:VCEL), which holds exclusive commercial and development rights for NexoBrid in the region.
