- MediciNova reported topline results from a Phase 2 trial of MN-001 in patients with type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease, and high triglycerides.
- The study showed changes in triglycerides and HDL cholesterol measures, including a statistically significant HDL increase compared with placebo.
- MediciNova reported that liver-fat and weight reductions were numerically greater with MN-001 but were not statistically significant between groups.
MediciNova (NASDAQ:MNOV) reported topline results from a Phase 2 placebo-controlled trial evaluating MN-001, also known as tipelukast, in patients with type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease, and elevated triglycerides.
The 24-week study enrolled 40 patients and evaluated changes in triglycerides, cholesterol measures, liver fat, body weight, and safety outcomes during treatment with MN-001 compared with placebo.
At Week 4, triglycerides declined by 54.7 mg/dL with MN-001 compared with 23.8 mg/dL with placebo, while HDL cholesterol increased by 3.3 mg/dL with MN-001 compared with a 2.4 mg/dL decline with placebo, with the HDL difference reaching statistical significance.
MediciNova develops small-molecule therapies targeting neurological, fibrotic, and other diseases, including MN-001 for metabolic and liver-related conditions.
The company reported that liver-fat measurements at Week 24 and body weight reductions at the end of the study were numerically greater with MN-001, but neither difference reached statistical significance, while treatment-related adverse events were mild to moderate.
