Finnair has reached a definitive agreement with Embraer (NYSE:EMBJ) to acquire up to 46 E195-E2 aircraft, marking one of the largest single investments in the Finnish flag carrier’s 102-year history.

The deal structure includes 18 firm orders, 16 options, and 12 additional purchase rights.

The new jets are slated to replace Finnair’s older regional aircraft, providing a more competitive platform for the airline's expanding European network.

The E195-E2 was selected primarily for its superior operational efficiency and environmental credentials.

According to the airline, the E2 is up to 35% more fuel-efficient than the previous generation E190s currently in operation.

For Finnair, this efficiency gain is a critical component of its strategy to reach net-zero carbon emissions, as the E195-E2 is currently the quietest and most environmentally friendly single-aisle jet in its segment.

Beyond the technical specifications, Finnair CEO Turkka Kuusisto highlighted the "high degree of customer comfort" provided by the E2’s unique cabin configuration.

Featuring a 2-2 seating layout with no middle seats, the aircraft is expected to be a major draw for business and leisure travelers on short-to-medium haul routes.

This focus on passenger experience, combined with the aircraft’s high reliability and versatility, is intended to bolster Finnair’s competitiveness across its Helsinki hub.

The first deliveries are expected to commence in the second half of 2027.
