Lilly launches diabetes and obesity access initiative

• Lilly launched the Change the Course Commitment to expand access to its diabetes and obesity medicines in resource-limited settings.

Eli Lilly (NYSE:LLY) launched the Change the Course Commitment, an initiative aimed at increasing access to its diabetes and obesity medicines in resource-limited settings before 2040.

The company said current access differs between regions, with one person in low- and middle-income countries able to access Lilly’s diabetes and obesity medicines for every four people in high-income countries.

Lilly said it plans to adapt clinical development approaches for resource-limited settings, seek registrations for medicines including GLP-1 treatments in additional low- and middle-income countries, and work with partners to improve primary healthcare systems.

Eli Lilly develops medicines across several therapeutic areas, including diabetes, obesity, oncology, immunology, and neurological conditions.

The company said registration efforts will focus on countries across Africa, Latin America, and Asia, while health-system initiatives will include training community health workers and improving disease awareness, diagnosis, and care.
