Jacobs (NYSE:J) will continue supporting thyssenkrupp Steel’s hydrogen-capable direct reduction plant in Duisburg, Germany, through an extended project management and construction services contract.

The extension expands Jacobs’ existing role on the facility, which is designed to replace coal-powered blast furnaces with a hydrogen-based iron production process.

Jacobs will continue coordinating design, logistics, construction activities, and assembly management as the project progresses toward first iron production.

The completed plant is expected to produce approximately 2.5 million metric tons of direct reduced iron annually, according to thyssenkrupp Steel’s project plans.

Jacobs originally received the program and construction management contract in August 2023 and has continued supporting civil works, quality assurance, health and safety activities, and onsite material management.
