Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) announced a €5 billion ($5.7 billion) capital investment at its Leixlip campus in Ireland to expand production of data center processors supporting artificial intelligence and high-performance computing demand.
The investment follows rising demand for Intel’s server and AI-related products, with the company targeting upgrades to fabrication facilities and additional manufacturing capacity at its primary European production site.
The program includes fabrication facility upgrades, new manufacturing equipment, expansion of the automated track system connecting production modules and additional research and development activities, with most funding expected to be deployed by the end of 2027.
Intel said the investment will add several hundred jobs to its existing Irish workforce of approximately 4,900 employees.
The Leixlip campus produces Intel Xeon 6 processors and next-generation Xeon chips built on Intel’s Intel 3 manufacturing process, supporting the company’s data center and artificial intelligence businesses.
Intel has invested more than €30 billion in Ireland since establishing operations there in 1989 and said the investment supports European Union goals around technology supply chain resilience.
