Home Depot (NYSE:HD) has acquired SIMPL Automation, a Waltham, Massachusetts-based robotics and AI firm, in a strategic move to optimize its massive distribution network.

The acquisition is designed to enhance the retailer's fulfillment operations, specifically targeting the speed and safety of same-day and next-day order processing for both DIY consumers and professional contractors.

SIMPL Automation specializes in advanced engineering and artificial intelligence tailored for high-density warehouse environments.

By integrating SIMPL’s technology, Home Depot aims to accelerate the flow of products from shelves to delivery vehicles with greater precision and fewer manual touches.

While the financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, the move marks a significant investment in the retailer's technological infrastructure.
