HIVE to acquire Big Boden data center
- HIVE Digital Technologies (NASDAQ:HIVE) has received approval from the Boden Municipal Council to acquire the 32 MW "Big Boden" data center from Bodens Utvecklings AB.
- The acquisition marks a strategic transition for HIVE, moving the company from a long-term tenant to the full owner of the facility.
- Following the closing of the deal, HIVE plans to upgrade the site to Tier III infrastructure standards to support enterprise-scale AI and high-performance computing (HPC) workloads.
On June 18, 2026, HIVE Digital Technologies (NASDAQ:HIVE) announced that it had secured municipal approval to acquire the Big Boden data center in Northern Sweden.
The 32 MW facility has anchored HIVE’s operations in the region since 2018, and this transaction grants the company full authority over the site's future development and expansion.
The company noted that it has invested more than 960 million SEK (approximately US$100 million) in the Boden region through local contractors and renewable energy procurement over the past eight years.
Furthermore, HIVE has contributed over 575 million SEK (more than US$60 million) in taxes to the Swedish Tax Authority during its tenure in the municipality.
The planned Tier III upgrades will allow the data center to meet the security, redundancy, and uptime requirements necessary for supporting enterprise-scale AI training and inference, including compatibility with the latest GPU architectures.
Following the announcement, HIVE Digital Technologies' share price was up at $2.64.
The Boden acquisition is a key component of HIVE's broader strategy to expand its renewable-powered AI compute footprint across its global facilities in Canada, Sweden, and Paraguay.
