Gogo’s SD Government unit secures $7.5M NOAA contract for Hurricane Hunter fleet
Gogo (NASDAQ:GOGO) announced today that its military and government subsidiary, SD Government, has secured a multi-year blanket purchase agreement with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
The contract, valued at $7.5 million, is designed to provide mission-critical communications infrastructure for NOAA’s renowned "Hurricane Hunter" aircraft fleet.
Under the terms of the agreement, SD Government will deliver a comprehensive suite of connectivity and security solutions to support the NOAA Aircraft Operations Center.
This includes L-Band satellite communications (SATCOM), ground network infrastructure, and advanced cybersecurity services managed through Gogo’s data center in Melbourne, Florida.
The contract also integrates Gogo’s proprietary FlightDeck Freedom cockpit datalink software, which is essential for real-time data transmission during high-stakes airborne research.
The timing of the contract is strategic, aimed at ensuring robust communications capabilities for NOAA’s fleet—which includes the Lockheed Martin WP-3D "Hurricane Hunter" aircraft—ahead of the 2026 hurricane season.
These aircraft play a vital role in global meteorology by flying directly into storm systems to collect atmospheric data, which is then used by forecasters to track storm intensity and predict landfall paths.
