
GE Aerospace conducts historic hybrid electric flight with NASA above 30,000 feet

GE Aerospace (NYSE:GE) announced at the Farnborough International Airshow that it has successfully conducted the world’s first hybrid electric flight above 30,000 feet.
The historic flight was achieved in collaboration with NASA, BETA Technologies, and Boeing under NASA’s Electrified Powertrain Flight Demonstration (EPFD) project.
The test utilized a Saab 340B testbed aircraft equipped with a megawatt-class, multi-kilovolt hybrid electric propulsion system.
During the demonstration, the system enabled a single flight lasting more than two hours in hybrid electric mode, powering the propeller while simultaneously charging the aircraft's battery.
Following the announcement at the airshow, GE Aerospace shares traded near $348.80.
The milestone involved significant contributions from industry partners.
BAE Systems and Boeing’s Aurora Flight Sciences supplied the batteries and nacelle hardware.
Meanwhile, BETA Technologies acted as the systems integrator and operated the hybrid legs of the flight during the transatlantic ferry.
GE Aerospace linked this achievement to a decade of ongoing hybrid electric development and broader testing conducted under the CFM RISE technology demonstration program.
