Galmed Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:GLMD) announced that its wholly owned subsidiary Colospan completed a first-in-human feasibility study of a colon tissue quality assessment platform in 32 colorectal cancer patients undergoing elective surgery.
The prospective single-arm study was conducted at three medical centers in Israel and evaluated a novel ex-vivo methodology for measuring colon tissue compliance during surgical procedures.
Colospan reported successful quantitative measurements in all 32 patients, with no measurement failures or procedure-related technical issues observed during the study.
Galmed plans to continue developing the intraoperative assessment technology to provide objective tissue quality data for surgeons.
The company said the platform is being developed alongside Colospan’s CG-100 intraluminal bypass device as part of its gastrointestinal oncology and colorectal surgery portfolio.
Galmed is focused on developing medical technologies targeting gastrointestinal and colorectal surgery applications through its Colospan subsidiary.
