- The Cape Station project is expected to begin operations in 2028.
- Google received an option to expand offtake by about 600 MW, potentially reaching nearly 1 GW.
Fervo Energy (NASDAQ:FRVO) signed a 396 MW power purchase agreement with Google (NASDAQ:GOOGL) for carbon-free energy from the Cape Station enhanced geothermal GeoCluster in Utah.
The project is expected to begin operations in 2028 and is designed to provide around-the-clock clean energy capacity for a potential Google data center in Utah.
Under the agreement, Google also received an option to expand its energy offtake by approximately 600 MW by June 2030, which could increase the total contracted capacity to nearly 1 GW.
Fervo Energy said the agreement represents the largest enhanced geothermal power arrangement to date.
Fervo Energy develops enhanced geothermal energy technology designed to produce electricity using geothermal resources with expanded drilling and reservoir techniques.
The company said the Cape Station project builds on previous collaborations with Google in Nevada and aims to add new clean energy capacity without additional costs to existing ratepayers.
