Rep. Don Beyer: Going to Try to Stop Triumphal Arch

President Donald Trump suggested he would modify plans for a large triumphal arch in the capital by including staging areas for US military snipers and to launch drones. The idea appears to be Trump's latest attempt to sell the idea of building a towering arch, which has spurred questions about whether it would dwarf Washington, DC's other memorials or pose a risk to air travel.  Trump is pushing to build the arch in Memorial Circle, which sits between Arlington National Cemetery and the Lincoln Memorial, and near Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, raising safety questions, though the Federal Aviation Administration has cleared the project as long as it has safety lighting. Democratic Representative Don Beyer of Virginia speaks with Joe Mathieu and Kailey Leinz on Balance of Power.

UNGA Convenes While Questions Remain on Iran, Russia

Russia is set to extend a ban on most diesel exports beyond the end of September as Ukraine continues to attack its refineries, according to people familiar with the matter. Russia enacted the ban in July as a wave of Ukrainian strikes against its refineries dragged oil-processing rates to multiyear lows. This comes as President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he'll meet President Donald Trump during the UN General Assembly week in New York as the embattled Ukrainian leader looks to shore up support to defend against stepped up Russian attacks. Zelenskyy said in a post on X that he had an "important conversation" with Trump and said their upcoming meeting could "change a lot." Heather Conley, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and a former deputy assistant Secretary of State speaks with Joe Mathieu and Kailey Leinz on Balance of Power.

Bitcoin Reaches Eight-Month High After Clarity Act Loss

Bloomberg Intelligence Senior US Policy Analyst Nathan Dean discusses the Securities and Exchange Commission giving the green light for digital versions of securities to start trading in the US. This plan could reshape traditional market structure after crypto legislation failed a key Senate vote on Tuesday. Also affecting the crypto space, Bitcoin surged past $85,000 to its highest since late-January, extending a sharp rebound as falling oil prices and a broader return of risk appetite helped cryptocurrencies move past setbacks on US crypto legislation and monetary policy. The original cryptocurrency climbed as much as 6.5% to $86,331 in New York trading, almost $10,000 above the lows touched last week after the Clarity Act stalled and the Federal Reserve raised interest rates. Even after that rebound, Bitcoin remains roughly a third below its record last October. Nathan Dean speaks with Bloomberg's Joe Mathieu on Balance of Power.

Paramount Talks Include Penalty for Missing 30-Film Pledge

Geetha Ranganathan, Bloomberg Intelligence analyst, joined Bloomberg's Paul Sweeney and Scarlet Fu to discuss the latest on the ongoing Paramount and Warner Bros. merger. The settlement talks between Paramount Skydance Corp. and California officials over the planned acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. are said to include a financial penalty if the company fails to make good on a promise to distribute 30 films per year in theaters. Paramount would have to pay $30 million for each film that falls short of that goal, according to two people familiar with the discussions who asked to not be identified because the negotiations are private. It could also be forced to sell its stake in Miramax, the studio behind movies such as Pulp Fiction, if it fails to meet the target, one of the people said.

Oil Drops Below $100 With Focus on Hormuz Flows, Diplomacy

Rob Barnett, Bloomberg Intelligence Senior Energy and Commodities Analyst, joined Bloomberg's Paul Sweeney and Scarlet Fu to discuss the latest in oil.  Oil fell below $100, heading for its longest run of declines since June, as robust flows through the Strait of Hormuz and diplomacy around the US-Iran war tamed a recent rally. Brent, the global benchmark, fell as much as 4.2% while West Texas Intermediate futures were down over 5% to trade near $95 a barrel. Satellite data showed that Saudi Arabia's observed oil loadings from inside the Persian Gulf jumped over the weekend, with the highest number of ships seen at the nation's main Persian Gulf port since June. It's a sign the kingdom has pivoted back toward Hormuz after the shutdown of a key cross-country pipeline to the Red Sea earlier this month following drone attacks.
