Bond Veteran Jim Bianco Still Bullish As Yields Soar

A move higher in oil is putting even more pressure on bonds, with yields hitting new milestones in a number of markets including the UK and the US. The UK's long-term borrowing costs hit 6% for the first time in almost three decades whilst the 10-year Treasury note climbed to the highest since 2002. It comes as government debt has been flailing around the world as uncertainty tied to the war in the Middle East ripples through the global economy, pushing investors to bet central banks will further raise interest rates. But bond veteran Jim Bianco, President and Founder of Bianco Research, is bullish on US sovereign debt on the basis of value generation. Bianco Turns Bullish on Treasuries Even as Yields Climb

Higher bond yields are justified by stronger nominal economic growth and rising inflation, making them a strong investment choice, says Jim Bianco, president and macro strategist at Bianco Research. Bianco tells Bloomberg Television that he has invested in bonds for the first time in six years and suggested the US 10-year Treasury note could rise toward 5.50% to 5.75%, but said yields around 5.25% are already attractive enough.

Mitchell: Hormuz Oil Exports Up With Shuttle Tankers Use

Oil steadied after gaining early on October 1st on uncertainty over the Middle East flow recovery can be sustained. Crude rose for a third month in September, as Washington and Tehran failed to make headway toward a lasting peace agreement that would fully reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
