Canadian Natural Resources (NYSE:CNQ) reported third-quarter 2026 net earnings of $2.997 billion and reached its $12.1 billion net debt target, allowing it to increase its planned allocation of free cash flow to shareholder returns.

Net earnings increased from $600 million in Q3 2025 but declined from $4.503 billion in Q2 2026, while adjusted funds flow reached $5.522 billion compared with $3.920 billion a year earlier and $6.866 billion in the previous quarter.

Net debt declined approximately $2.4 billion during the quarter to $12.1 billion, below the company's $13 billion debt target, triggering a new policy targeting 100% of free cash flow for share repurchases, subject to market conditions, with approximately $800 million in monthly buybacks targeted for November and December.

Canadian Natural operates oil and natural gas production businesses across Western Canada, the United Kingdom's North Sea and offshore Africa, with operations spanning oil sands, conventional crude oil, natural gas and midstream activities.

The company also completed its Horizon maintenance shutdown on October 6, seven days ahead of schedule, and management expects the earlier completion to support approximately 23,000 additional barrels of synthetic crude production daily in the fourth quarter compared with its original budget.
